Course Description

The key to supporting the use of the Motivational Interviewing model in counseling is supervisory feedback and coaching. This two day class features Motivational Interviewing Assessment: Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency (MIA: STEP), and the Core Competencies of Integrated Behavioral Health and Primary Care. the aim is to train individuals who already have acquired MI skills in how to observe and coach their supervisees in the proper application of these skills in an integrated care environment. MIA: STEP is a method of training supervisees to use Motivational Interviewing in client assessments for joining and engaging the client, receiving better and more accurate information during the assessment, and improving client commitment to treatment following the assessment. Using a simple scoring and feedback technique, this course teaches effective coaching and supervisory skills to help team leaders, managers, and supervisors work effectively with their staff to support MI skills.
